April 2023 Juror Comments
Cindy Wilson - Juror
The Eyes Have It by Frank Leith
First Place
This image has so much impact! Amidst the patterns, texture, and rivers of flesh there is the strong focal point of the eye. This image transcends abstraction creating a mysterious creature that may be watching you.
Waiting by Jack Heller
Second Place
I am entranced by the mystery in this image. The eye is directed to a very small part of the image by the local contrast. The use of black and white enhances the feeling of timeless waiting. The use of shadow, silhouette, framing, and subject placement create an image that asks more questions than it answers.
La Historia Mi Absolvera by Paul Murray
Third Place
The metaphors in this image abound. Low-key tone, abandonment, and the empty windows, reveal a sense of eternal despair. The tower, although a strong, powerful element, is diminished by the juxtaposition of the decayed opening towards the heavens.

Honorable Mention: It's Saturday Night by Sandra Saunders
This image makes me smile at the joy these birds are having in the bath water. The depth of field, complimentary colors and appropriate shutter speed make this image a delight.

Juror's Choice: Tilting Beauty by Eileen Conragan
This image is an expressive interpretation of intimacy, grace and of the anthropomorphic power of nature. The tree, dusted by the snowfall, is connecting both banks over the river for a seemingly eternal moment.
