Shane Gutierrez
Welcome back social hour and talk by Shane Gutierrez entitled “Reflecting on Reflection.”

As being taught in Shane's latest class, he will present new ways of seeing such as making two photographs in one - the image reflected and its surrounding - whether using water, glass, mirrors, or mylar.
Eric Hovermale: Maine, COVID and Beyond
Please join us as Eric Hovermale will present a 2012 photo essay about a friend who lived in an old corn cannery in rural Maine. He will also present a portfolio of photos from the last 2-3 years, focused on dance, portrait figure, motion studies and performance.
Eric lives and works in Newport, RI. Although he studied to be a painter, he has concentrated on photography for the past fifteen years. His subject matter centers principally on the figure and on the portrait. His figure studies are primarily explorations of movement, form, and light. "In my images, I try to retain something of the spirit of my interaction with the subject. If you look at one of my images and have just a flash of a memory or a feeling without knowing why or what, I’ll feel that I’ve succeeded. However, if you look at my images and enjoy doing so, I’ll be just as happy. In a portrait, it’s always my goal to create an image that captures the interest of the viewer regardless of whether he or she knows the subject. One shouldn't need to know the subject to be intrigued."
Eric’s website can be accessed at erichovermale.com.

Member Night
Please join us to hear from JR Lynch, Elizabeth O'Connor and Lisa Bergeron….doors open at 6:30.
JR's Overview: Capturing the heart and soul of a person you do not know with your camera
Subject/Theme: A recent shoot I did of a person I did not know, whom I was talking with and asked for permission to photograph her.
Description: I will explain how I met the person, gained their permission and show the results of the shoot as a "proof sheet" using Lightroom on my Apple/Mac laptop.
Elizabeth's Overview: My journey with digital infrared photography and how it led me to discover my artistic voice
My presentation will be about my journey with digital infrared photography which I do almost exclusively now. I will talk about how I tried infrared film and thought it was cool but did not continue with it until...many years later when a presentation by a NPG guest speaker at the NAM showed a Minor White infrared film photo and I was inspired to try it again using my digital camera. I also showed my first digital infrared in a NPG show - which I was hesitant to do because it was so different and before the infrared craze began.
Lisa' Overview: Unleashing Creativity with Presence
Some people believe that the act of taking photos makes us less present. Perhaps because we may be distracted and focused on just getting “the shot”. But for me, taking photos often draws me into the moment. When I pause before I shoot, I am able to connect to the experience and my surroundings, and that is when my creativity emerges. I am tuned-in to the interesting details - shimmering lights, reflections, texture, colors and the potential to capture a story. My creativity expands during the post production process as I make my creative choices. I will share photos where I believe presence sparked my creativity process, enhanced observations and helped me create stronger images.

Ron Rosenstock - Black and White
Ron Rosenstock has been creating images of the world and its people since the 1950's. His view of the world developed from his correspondence with Ansel Adams, his work with his teacher Minor White and as a student of Paul Caponigro. Ron earned a degree in Photography from Goddard College and has been an instructor of photography since 1967 at Clark University. He has exhibited his work in more than 100 shows worldwide and is featured in a number of permanent exhibitions including the Fogg Art Museum, the Worcester Art Museum, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the International Center of Photography.
His most recent exhibit is at The National Museum of Iceland. Ron also leads photography tours around the world including Bhutan, Iceland, Italy, Morocco, New Zealand, Greenland, and Cuba. Over the years Ron’s work has had many incarnations: from darkroom to digital; from large format to 35mm; from pastel dawn to infrared dusk; from vivid colors to black and white. His images are real. In some ways, color might be considered more ‘real’ than black & white. Black & white photography is a subject that is often under-appreciated in this day of intense color. It’s about contrast and tone, form and composition. It’s about the shape of light itself. In this presentation, Ron will explore what he considers to be his ‘favorite’ type of photography.
More information can be found on Ron’s website.

Producing With Purpose - Alex DeCiccio
Alex has been working as a photographer at the University of Rhode Island's Inner Space Center since it was founded in 2009. Based on the vision of Dr. Robert Ballard to connect a wide range of audiences to at-sea ocean science and exploration, in real-time, the Inner Space Center has produced work at the interface of innovation, research, and communications in ocean and climate science.
Alex has worked alongside most projects at the ISC documenting the incredibly varied roles and responsibilities involved in numerous pilot experiments. One constant remains the same - to draw closer in dialogue the inquiry of science and the depth of the human heart, with the intent to create more life enriching and truthful experiences for audiences and researchers, alike.
