Please join us as Eric Hovermale will present a 2012 photo essay about a friend who lived in an old corn cannery in rural Maine. He will also present a portfolio of photos from the last 2-3 years, focused on dance, portrait figure, motion studies and performance.
Eric lives and works in Newport, RI. Although he studied to be a painter, he has concentrated on photography for the past fifteen years. His subject matter centers principally on the figure and on the portrait. His figure studies are primarily explorations of movement, form, and light. "In my images, I try to retain something of the spirit of my interaction with the subject. If you look at one of my images and have just a flash of a memory or a feeling without knowing why or what, I’ll feel that I’ve succeeded. However, if you look at my images and enjoy doing so, I’ll be just as happy. In a portrait, it’s always my goal to create an image that captures the interest of the viewer regardless of whether he or she knows the subject. One shouldn't need to know the subject to be intrigued."
